Responsible gambling
Members of the Hospice Lotteries Association are committed to using lotteries to raise vital funds for hospices in a responsible way.
While the risk of 'problem gambling' associated with hospice lotteries is small, there may be circumstances where some players or their families may wish to discuss gambling-related problems with specialist advisers.
To facilitate this, Hospice Lotteries Association financially supports the work of The GREaT Foundation - the organisation which provides this support.
About The GREaT Foundation
The GREaT Foundation, formerly known as the Responsibility in Gambling Trust (RIGT), was established as a charity in 2002. It is the largest funding body in Britain responsible for tackling problem gambling, through the funding of research, education and treatment from voluntary donations.
In June 2009, the Sports Minister announced that the voluntary funding system would remain in place to help problem gamblers - on the condition that a minimum of £5 million is raised for each of the subsequent three years.
Since then, it has been encouraging to see the response from the gambling industry generally. However, there is still a long way to go in order to continue to reach its fundraising targets. Therefore, in addition to receiving voluntary funding from gambling licence holders, The GREaT Foundation also seeks to obtain donations from all others that make an income from gambling including the finance, media and professional services industries.
